I JUST read your article in The Boynton Beach Times, and I felt as if my family's prayers have been answered. You see, a few years ago, my husband passed away. Since then, I feel as though I've been floundering through life and not meeting up to earlier standards I had set for myself. In 2000, we left Pennsylvania and moved to Florida. Somehow, I knew in my heart that Florida would be a land of "new beginnings" for all of us. Along with losing my husband, my family also lost the healthcare benefits which his union provided. My teeth have been long neglected, due to the costs. I have numerous painful cavities which always go on the "back burner" of our family's monthly budget. About four months ago, one of my old fillings collapsed. The dentist quoted me at a figure that would easily pay three month's rent. It was a no-brainer--the tooth would have to wait. It became too painful, and recently, I had to have it pulled. I'd like to prevent this from happening again, and I'm hopeful that this contest would help me do so. Last spring was a time when I finally thought that I could pull myself together enough to start my own business. I had always wanted to own a business that could eventually lend a helping hand and provide skills to other women. I had met with an advisor who gave me a lot of information, and things seemed to be taking shape. A few weeks later, my family were victims of a horrific car accident. My younger daughter was not in the car, but my teenager was. Thankfully, she suffered minor injuries. But me, I would take well over a year to feel halfway normal again. Sure, I still live with the residual daily pain, but it can only get better from here--right? After a few surgeries and a long heal, I am now inspired by the chance to change not only my, but my two daughters' future as well. Maybe, this contest is the new beginning we all need. Sincerely, D P |
